Drug-Free Workplace Policy
Introduction
Soar Detroit is committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, and productive work environment for all employees and volunteers. In line with this commitment, we have established a Drug-Free Workplace Policy. This policy outlines the responsibilities and expectations of employees and volunteers in relation to substance use and is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone at Soar Detroit.
Policy Overview
Prohibited Conduct
The following conduct is strictly prohibited at Soar Detroit:
The use, possession, sale, distribution, or being under the influence of illegal drugs on company premises or while conducting company business.
The abuse of legal drugs, including prescription medication, that impairs an employee's or volunteer’s ability to perform their job safely and effectively.
The use of alcohol during work hours or on company property, except at approved company events.
Employee/Volunteer Responsibilities
Employees/Volunteers are expected to:
Adhere to the Drug-Free Workplace Policy at all times.
Report to work in a condition fit to perform their duties, free from the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Notify their supervisor if they are taking any prescription medication that may affect their ability to safely perform their job duties.
Testing and Enforcement
To promote a safe workplace for staff, volunteers and students, Soar Detroit may conduct any of the following:
Pre-employment screening for all potential employees and volunteers.
Reasonable suspicion testing when there is a belief that an employee/volunteer may be under the influence.
Post-accident testing after any workplace incident that may involve substance use.
Random testing as deemed necessary to maintain safety and compliance with this policy.
Consequences of Policy Violations
Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment/severance of volunteer placement. The specific consequences will depend on the severity of the violation and any legal requirements.
Support for Employees/Volunteers
Soar Detroit encourages employees/volunteers who may have a substance abuse problem to seek help through their health plan or college/university health services. If such a program is not available through these venues, please visit MiSUD Locator for treatment options.
